Legends are actually axes objects that sit on top or beside an axes object. A legend cannot exist without its "mother axes object".

The context menu of a legend contains the following functions:
| • | Font: Changes the font properties of the text on a legend through a Legend Font dialog. |
| • | Text Color: Change the text color on a legend through a color picker dialog. |
| • | Background Color: Change the background color of a legend. |
| • | Border Color: Change the color of the legend's border. |
| • | Reorder Legend: Change the ordering of the text labels on the legend through a reordering dialog. |
| • | Hide Legend: Hides all legends, but does not destroy them. To make legends visible again, click on "Show Legend" on the Edit Menu; see Menus for details. |
| • | Lock/Unlock Legend: By pressing down the left Mouse button on a legend you can normally drag it to another position. These functions make such dragging possible or impossible. |
