The axes context menu, which opens when you right-click somewhere in the axes but not on another graphics object, has both common and idiosyncratic functions. The idiosyncratic function are only available for either 2D or 3D graphs and are therefore described under 2D Editing Tools and 3D Editing Tools, respectively.

|
• | Font: Open the "Axes Font" dialog. Allows you to change the font, the font style, the font size, and the font script on all axes. It does not affect the axes labels font properties, which are located on the Text Context Menu. If there's a legend connected to the axes, it will change the legend text font properties; the latter font properties can also be altered from the Legend Context Menu. Default font properties for axes objects can be set on the Graphics tab on the Preferences dialog. |
• | Background Color: Change the background color of an axes object through a color picker dialog. |
• | Axes Color: Change the color of an individual X, Y or Z axis. |
• | Axes Width: Change the width of axes lines from 0.5 point, 1 point up to 10 points. |
• | Grid Style: Select between 5 different styles for grid lines in an axes object, given that you can selected grid lines that are perpendicular with respect to an X, Y or Z axis. |
• | Tick Direction: Select between having tick marks in or out from the axes object. |
• | Layer: Select between displaying the axes object above or below all objects in the object. |
• | Paste: Paste lines, patches (bars) or surfaces into the axes objects. Requires that you have copied such objects; see Line Context Menu for details. |
• | Copy Subplot: On figures with multiple axes objects you can open an axes object with all its content in a new figure window through this function. |
• | Add/Delete Legend: Adds or removes a legend from an axes object. |
• | Delete Axes: Removes the axes object from the figure window. This function is only available when there are multiple axes objects in the figure. |
• | Unlock/Lock Axes: Makes it possible to move an axes object around in the figure and then lock it in a given position. |
